Is Christian Horner plotting a sensational return to Formula One, this time with Aston Martin? The rumor mill is churning, and the latest twist involves none other than design guru Adrian Newey.

Whispers started swirling about Horner potentially joining the Silverstone-based squad, especially after reports suggested Andy Cowell's position was shaky amidst a power struggle with the legendary Newey.

Then BAM! Team boss Lawrence Stroll dropped a bombshell: Newey, 66, would step into the Team Principal role – a first for him. Cowell? He's now Chief Strategy Officer.

Stroll even shut down the Horner chatter, declaring "not happening" to Aston Martin staff during the leadership announcement. Case closed? Not so fast!

SunSport's F1 Insider Richard Hopkins – a Red Bull alum with Brabham and McLaren on his CV – thinks this could all be a "smokescreen." Could Newey's appointment be a temporary fix before a bigger move?

Speaking with Casino.org, where you can play poker online, Hopkins hinted at more behind-the-scenes drama, suggesting the Horner saga might have another act.

"Lots of people were surprised," Hopkins confessed. "Adrian's an engineer. They’re not always the best communicators. Adrian’s just not that person."

He contrasted Newey with the likes of Fred Vasseur and Zak Brown: "They're great media people, great in front of the camera." Newey, according to Hopkins, is a different beast altogether: a genius in the technical realm, but perhaps not a natural team principal.

"Is being a team principal a natural thing for Adrian? Well, quite possibly not," Hopkins stated. "Somebody needed to step into that role for 2026."

The rumor mill is working overtime... "There are rumours of Christian still being in discussion. Apparently Christian was seen at the Aston Martin facility quite recently."

Hopkins continued: "So is Adrian being team principal just a bit of a smokescreen for something else that’s going to happen, and another announcement, and this is just a stopgap?"

He emphasized, "That’s not me thinking that’s the case; there are lots of people talking about that." The speculation is rampant in the F1 paddock.

Hopkins points out Newey's age (66) and his desire to design championship-winning cars. What if this whole situation mirrors Red Bull, but with Aston Martin?

Hopkins mused: "Adrian does what Adrian does, Christian does what Christian does." A tantalizing thought for F1 fans!

Hopkins also shared anecdotes about F1 legends, including a vodka-loving McLaren champion and drivers who "dig deep" to overcome adversity, like Michael Schumacher, Jackie Stewart, and Ayrton Senna.

And what about Williams' "fantastic" resurgence? Hopkins praised their "culturally great, friendly team," noting their unique spirit in the often cutthroat world of F1.

He added: "I don’t think there would be any team in the pit lane that isn’t happy to see Williams doing well."
