Ouch! Was Chris Fischer's birthday gag a harbinger of marital doom? Sources say the split is on the horizon for Amy Schumer and her chef hubby.

Back in June 2021, for Schumer's 40th birthday, Fischer presented her with a cake that was… shall we say, a bit unconventional. The chocolate confection declared, "I'm leaving you. This was the only way I could think to do it."

The comedian, now 44, posted a video of the cake reveal on Instagram. Surrounded by loved ones singing "Happy Birthday," Schumer's smile reportedly faltered as Fischer placed the cake before her, with their son Gene, now 6, on her lap. Was she in on the joke, or was it a truly awkward moment?

Fast forward to last month, and the internet went into overdrive when Schumer seemingly scrubbed her pre-weight-loss pics from her Instagram. "Deleted [my] old pics for no reason!" she insisted.

She followed this with some glamorous modeling shots, conspicuously sans wedding ring. "Your Instagram is not your identity, it’s a curation of what you want the world to see," she wrote, adding she feels "great strong and beautiful and it’s been fun sharing that."

But as always, there's potentially more to the story than meets the perfectly filtered eye. According to the Daily Mail, the split is imminent.

"Amy is 100% getting divorced. She got skinny. She is over it," one source sniped, claiming she "deleted Chris from Instagram, then deleted everything else. She’s going to file soon, but it’s over. Done."

The same source claimed Fischer, 45, is already "mostly out of the house at this point," adding that the couple has "listed two homes now – in Brooklyn and New Orleans."

Another insider pointed out that Schumer hasn't brought Fischer on a red carpet "for months."

“When a woman loses weight, her personality changes," this source declared, adding that Schumer "has changed since losing weight; she is much lighter in her spirit, more easygoing. I think she wants more out of life."

This second source, along with a third, also suggested that Fischer’s autism "has also become a minor issue for their relationship."

Schumer clapped back on her Instagram Story, insisting, "Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism."

But sources close to the pair are singing a different tune. As one insider told Page Six, there is "zero chance of salvaging the marriage."

"They’ve been having issues for ages," the insider elaborated. "… All they are doing now is working out a conscious uncoupling plan." (Remember that gem from Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's 2014 split? Ah, conscious uncoupling.)

Schumer and Fischer, who tied the knot in February 2018, apparently spent the entire summer of 2023 apart. She opted to vacation in Europe with Jerry Seinfeld and his wife, Jessica Seinfeld.

By summer's end, the couple reportedly agreed to work on their relationship. However, the focus has since shifted to their son, Gene.

"Amy also wants to have the most amicable co-parenting relationship possible with Chris, so they are sorting out what will work best," the insider said.

So, what's the real story here? Was that birthday cake a twisted joke, or a sign of deeper cracks in the relationship? Only time will tell how this "conscious uncoupling" unfolds.

Reps for Schumer and Fischer have yet to comment, leaving us to speculate and parse every Instagram post for clues.
